Mallow Camera Club are back in action following summer break
FOLLOWING its summer break the Mallow Camera Club will swing back into action next Monday evening with the return of its popular ‘Camera Skills for Beginners’ programme.
The eight-week course will offer newcomers to the world of photography the opportunity to view life through the lens by drawing on the expertise of experienced club members.
Club PRO Jim McSweeney said the course is aimed at people seeking to learn more about their camera and the techniques needed to improve their skills.
“Participants will learn the basics of many aspects of Photography including exposure, aperture, shutter speed and ISO, lenses, camera settings, composition, flash and studio lighting, night photography, use of tripods, backgrounds and distractions, setting up your camera just to mention a few,” said Jim.
The cost of the course will be €60 payable on the first night. To book a place contact Peggy by phone on 087 987 2515 or by email at obrienpeggy@gmail.com or visit the club’s Facebook page.
Jim said the seed for the establishment of the club was set by John Hooton and group of friends back in 1986.
Since then the Club, which currently boasts 58 members, has gone on to become one of the most successful in the country with members winning numerous awards over the years.
“We cater for all levels over four grades from beginners to advanced. We meet each Monday for two hours from 8pm at the Mercy Centre from September through to May where we share our experience and knowledge and enjoy a chat over a tea or coffee,” he said.
Throughout the year the club regularly invites guest speakers from other club’s to their meetings, holds monthly competitions across all grades and Image of the Year and Photographer of the Year competitions. It also runs practical nights and Q&A sessions on specific aspects of photography, Photoshop courses and organises photography outings to locations that offer good opportunities for photography.
“The club thrives on the camaraderie among all the members and the support and guidance that the more advanced members provide to the beginners and less-advanced members,” said Jim.
“We have a vibrant membership of people with a passion for photography and new members are always welcome,” he added.
