Dromtarrif­fe hold out for important win

DROMTARRIF­FE held out for a very good win over Glenville in the County IFC Round 3 at Ballycloug­h on Saturday evening.

The overall speed accuracy and team work of the Duhallow side proved decisive in the end.

The winners against the cross breeze had four points in the opening 6 minutes by Evan Murphy (2) Mark O’Connor and Dan O’Keeffe.

Glenville had their opening score a pointed free by James Gowen in the eighth minute. The East Cork side were on terms a minute later when a quick free by James Gowen found Dylan McCarthy who netted.

Dan O’Keeffe pointed. Good play by Noel Cahill led to a lead point by Eddie Delahunt. In the 21st minute Dan O’Keeffe levelled 1-3 to 0-6.

Good play by Conor Cremin and Brian O’Keeffe led to a lead point by Daniel O’Keeffe. There was a further exchange of points with James Gowen levelling 0-9 to 1-6. On the stroke of half-time Dan O’Keeffe edged the winners a point clear.

On the resumption James Gowen levelled from a free. Dromtarrif­fe came strong they defended very well, won an amount of possession in midfield. Up front Evan Murphy and Dan O’Keeffe took some very good scores.

Conor O’Callaghan kicked a long range point in the 40th minute 0-14 to 1- 8. Glenville made some great runs out of defence but overall they lacked penetratio­n up front. James Gowen kept them in touch with a free. ‘Drom’ replied when Evan Murphy pointed a ‘45.

The winners used the short passing at speed regularly. Dan Oasdfdsafd­sf’Keeffe added a free and Darren O’Connor punched over as they led 0-17 to 1-9.

Glenville’s Daniel Dennehy was put through but was denied by Dromtarrif­fe keeper Dan Mann.

Glenville went in search of a goal. It came in the 53rd minute when Daniel Dennehy and Colin Cronin combined well for James Gowen who goaled 0-17 to 2-9. Glenville were unable to get on terms.

Good play by Kevin O’Neill and Shane O’Reilly led to a point by Daniel Dennehy. In the 60th minute Evan Murphy with a massive point helped Dromtarrif­fe to a county quarter-final meeting with Ballydesmo­nd.
