KILSHANNIG emerged deserving winners over Killavulle­n in the Fermoy Credit Union JAFC semi final at Mourneabbe­y on Friday evening.

Exchanges were close early on. Kilshannig opened with a Darragh O’Sullivan point in the 4th minute. James Angland saved well from Jack Twomey. Killavulle­n’s Garry Lane was fouled and Liam Cronin levelled from the free.

Good play by Colm O’Shea led to a fine

Kildorrery 2-22 Kilara Óg 4-10 point by Killian O’Hanlon. Kilshannig were now well on top. Their half backs were very impressive with their midfielder­s also doing well ensuring their attack were in regular supply.

Billy Norris pointed for Killavulle­n after good play by Garry Lane and Jack O’Connor. Killian O’Hanlon followed with a point. At the end of the first quarter Kilshannig had their goal by Eanna O’Hanlon after a four man attack.

It opened up a lead 1-4 to 0-2. Killian O’Hanlon pointed a ‘45. Killavulle­n replied when Jack O’Connor worked a good movement along the flank that saw Padraigh Looney point from a tight angle.

Kilshannig won a lot of aerial tussles and good points by Brian Guerin and Bill Curtin gave them a seven point lead. Liam Cronin pointed a free 1-7 to 0-4 at the break.

Kilshannig had the aid of the stiff breeze on the changeover. They had five points in the opening seven minutes by Darragh O’Sullivan, Kieran Twomey (3) and Eanna O’Hanlon as they moved 1-12 to 0-4 clear.

Killavulle­n never gave up they created a few good chances but lacked scoring power with the Kilshannig defence holding firm. Liam Cronin pointed two frees with Eanna O’Hanlon pointing from long range.

Killavulle­n’s Padraigh Looney had a very good point 1-13 to 0-7. The winners added two pointed frees by Killian O’Hanlon by the 52nd minute.

Good play by Bill Curtin to Dermot Twomey led to the winners last score a point by Killian O’Hanlon.

Liam Cronin had his fifth pointed free for Killavulle­n in injury time. Kilshannig advanced to meet Kilworth in the final this Saturday in Kildorrery.

THIS was a thrilling Rebel Óg North Under 16 FC Div 1 game at Mourneabbe­y on Wednesday evening.

Played on a league system Killavulle­n needed a win to secure a place in the knock-out stages. They were deadlocked on 5 occasions. Having led in the closing stages Killavulle­n looked like holding out for a close win.

However, an injury time point for Clyda Rovers earned them the draw and Clyda now advanced to the semi finals. The home side opened the scoring with an early Cian Walsh point.

Rowan Doherty added another after two minutes. Kian Lane opened Killavulle­n’s account with Michael Walsh levelling in the seventh minute 0-2 each. Jamie Magnier pointed from a free and from play as Killavulle­n edged ahead.

The Mourneabbe­y side fought back well. A foul on Mikie Corbett led to a pointed free by Cian Walsh. The latter followed with a point that levelled 0-4 each after 19 minutes.

There was a further exchange of points with Rovers Garry Deane placing Ben Nyhan for a good point. Michael Walsh with a late free for Killavulle­n closed the gap at the break 0-8 to 0-7.

On the restart Shane Walsh worked well for Ronan Barry who levelled at 0-8 each. Killavulle­n hit a purple patch. They used the short passing to good effect and three points on the spin by Jamie Magnier (2) and Ronan Barry had them 0-11 to 0-8 clear by the end of the third quarter.

Clyda Rovers dominated the last quarter. Their half backs worked very well with their midfielder­s Ben Nyhan and Garry Deane also doing well. Cian Walsh pointed a free.

Impressive full-back Cormac O’Reilly closed the gap to the minimum with six minutes remaining. Clyda had two wides but a point in injury time by Rowan Doherty secured the equaliser and was followed by the final whistle.
