September is usually a quiet month for track and field athletes, but training will be ongoing throughout the winter, so that everyone will not lose the fitness built up throughout the year.

Coming up for some at the end of the month, on the last Sunday, September 29, will be the inaugural running of the Avondhu division Cross Country Championsh­ips. The ages for the competitio­n will be for even age juveniles, ie under-10, 12, 14, 16 etc. Under-nine athletes will be able to compete with the under-10, the under-11s with the under-12 and so on. There will also be junior, senior and masters. Competitio­ns will be held in Churchtown. This is a great opportunit­y for our athletes to have a go.

The Cork County Cross Country Championsh­ips will take place on the following Sunday, October 6, also in Churchtown.

TRAINING – On Mondays in Liscarroll from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Fridays in Doneraile commencing on September 13, starting at 6.30 p.m. for all athletes. Little Athletics will start up again on Thursday, September 12, in Liscarroll from 6.30 to 7.30 p.m.

CROSS COUNTRY – The First of the Cross Country Events will be on Sunday, September 29. This is a new competitio­n for Athletes in the North West Side of County Cork (Avondhu Division) and is taking place on the Sunday before the County Cross Country in Churchtown. For Even Age Juveniles, under-10, underunder-14 etc.

DATES – Sunday, October 6; County Juvenile Even Age, under-23 and Novice X – Country at Churchtown

Sunday, October 13; County Juvenile Uneven Age, senior, and junior X – Country at West Muskerry

Sunday, October 20; Munster Juvenile Evenage, under-20, under-23 and Novice X – Country at Limerick Race Course.

Sunday, November 10; Munster Juvenile Unevenage and Senior X-Country at (Cork Venue)

Sunday, November 17; Munster Masters and Juvenile Relays X-Country at (Kerry Venue).

Sunday, December 1; Munster Juvenile B, and Intermedia­te X-Country at Two Mile Borris, Tipperary.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

Lismire GAA will hold their Annual Church Gate Collection next Sunday 8th September in Lismire. All support is greatly appreciate­d.

FOOTBALL

Lismire have been drawn to play Tullylease in the semi-final of the Junior B Football Championsh­ip at a date and venue to be announced.

DUHALLOW FINAL

Best wishes to our footballer­s Darragh Kearney (Newmarket) and Mark Field (Kilbrin) who face each other in the Duhallow Junior Hurling Final in Tullylease at 3.00pm next Sunday.
