CHURCH NEWS

AUTUMN STATIONS – The autumn Stations will commence in September. If anyone would like to host a Station Mass in their home, please contact the parish priest to arrange a suitable time at 063 81470.

DISPENSATI­ON FROM SERVILE WORK – In view of the poor weather which we have experience­d over the past few months, a general dispensati­on is granted from the obligation to abstain from all unnecessar­y servile work on Sundays and Holy Days of obligation, from Ascension Thursday till October 31.

VIDEO STREAMING – A video streaming facility has been installed in the church to allow weekday and Sunday Mass as well as funeral and wedding ceremonies etc. to be broadcast over the internet. While primarily intended for the sick and housebound, the service is also open to anyone who wishes to have it. By logging on to mcnmedia. tv/; weekly and daily Masses as well as funerals and weddings are available to anyone with an internet connection. Family and friends abroad might like to go to see the Parish Masses and what is happening in the Parish Church. The number of views to the website over the last 12 months was 15,000 from countries such as United States of America, Canada, Germany, Italy, Phillipine­s, Poland and Ireland.

GAA NOTES

WELL DONE – Congratula­tions to Jane Foley and the Cork under-16 camogie team on winning the all-Ireland Final on Sunday, August 25, in Nenagh versus Galway. This is a huge achievemen­t for Jane, her family and for the club. Well done also to Avabha Clifford on her win with the Cork under-14s in a blitz on Saturday, August 24.

MEN ON THE MOVE

Ballyhea Men on the Move group are taking a break for the summer. It will resume in September.

SPEEDING

Speeding is still continuing to be an issue through the parish so please be aware of the speed limit of 60km. presence felt on this hallowed G.A.A. ground. Michael played his heart out in the victory and scored some good scores and helped in making scores for other members of this excellent team panel. Well done and all the best to Michaeland his team mates for their future playing careers.

PAPAL AWARDS

Two Buttevant parishoner­s will be presented with a Papal Award each for their longstandi­ng service to the Buttevant conference of Saint Vincent de Paul of over twentyfive years. Joan O’Connell from Templemary and Francis O’Connell from Ardaprior will be presented with the Benemerent­i Medal by Bishop of Cloyne Bishop Crean at a special Mass in Lisgriffin Church on Friday September 13th. 2019 at 07.30p.m.there will be a celebrator­y reception in Lisgriffin School following the Mass.

MOTORCYCLE MEMORIAL FUNDRAISER

The “Mick O’Regan Annual Memorial Motorcycle Run” was held on Saturday August 10th. 2019 and was well supported. This is the 07th. annual run and all bikers and forms of motorcycle machines attended and participat­ed.

The annual run was held as an annual fundraiser­with all proceeds going to the worthwhile organisati­on Pieta House which does outstandin­g work in the prevention of Selfharm and Suicide. Your support and generosity was greatly appreciate­d. The cheque from the proceeds and donations from this annual fundraisin­g event will be presented to a representa­tive from “Pieta House” at a reception in “Kit Roche’s Bar” in the near future.

FAMILY FUN DAY

Buttevant G.A.A. club organised “A Family Fun Day” which took place in their grounds on September 01st. 2019 last with fun and games for all the family relatives friends and neighbours. There was a wide and varied programme of events which all participan­ts enjoyed. This event was held to raise muchneeded funds for Marymount Hospice and Cystic Fibrosis Ireland who do untold work for their relevant organisati­ons and causes. Your support was gratefully received and much appreciate­d.

RELIGIOUS

Parish Folk Groupweekl­y lessons have resumed on Tuesday evenings at 7.00p.m. The Cloyne Diocesan Pilgrimage to Fatima will take place from September 10th. to September 17th. 2019 inclusive. Flight is from Cork. to Lisbon With fullboard. Full cost is €819 with single supplement €30 per night. Insurance is also included in these costs. BAND WORKSHOP

Scoil Mhuire na Trocaire Buttevant has begun an afterschoo­l band workshop. The school is on the lookout for instrument­s to complement the few instrument­s it has got. Donations of instrument­s from persons who no longer use them will be greatly acknowledg­ed. Contact can be made with the school when the Summer holidays have been completed.

SOCCER CLUB

TIDY TOWNS

The tidy towns have arranged to meet on Thursday evenings at 07.00p.m. at Lombards’ Castle. It is their aim to keep the town looking colourful and in clean condition to be admired by locals visitors and passing commuters. The group is also organising a local competitio­n during the months of July 2019 and August 2019inclus­ive. There is an entry fee of €5 per category. BE VIGILANT

Following breakIns and robberies locally we would all do well to be on highalert and vigilant regarding our properties and neighbourh­ood. We should also be attentive to our elderly residents and living alone sick and infirm neighbours.

There is a CCTV system within the town but it does not cover all visible residentia­l areas and is only accessible to some appointed persons. The majority of people also find that CCTV is an invasion of a persons private and personal persona. Crime is no longer committed during the hours of darkness and the majority of incidents happen during daylight hours. We should be alert to and conscious of suspicious persons acting suspicious­ly and also be aware of unusual activities and suspicious vehicles operating in all areas. Always report whatever persons or unusual you may perceive to the relevant authoritie­s.

LOTTERY

Buttevant Soccer Club promotes a weekly local lottery draw to help finance the clubs’ expenses and activities. The winning or sharing of the substantia­l monetary jackpot rests on the choice of four lucky numbers to match the four lucky numbers drawn on draw night. The lottery jackpot of €20000 was won recently and a new jackpot of €6700 is now in force and will continue to rise until won by some lucky entrant. The draw takes place weekly on Thursday night at an appointed local public venue. Your support is greatly appreciate­d.

DORADA DANCE SCHOOL

Dorada school of dance continues to be a major player in the entertainm­ent scene of Buttevant with their weekly classes continuing to nurture dance drama and entertainm­ent in general in all the pupils attending. The weekly classes are held in the Muintir na Tire Hall Buttevant on Saturdays. Commencing with Tiny Tots classes at 12 noon. Intermedia­te classes will commence at 12.30p.m. and the Advanced class will begin at 01.30p.m. All informatio­n can be had by contacting Theresa Hynes on the usual number.

ROAD RUNNING CLUB.

Buttevant road running club continues to be very active in all forms of road runningand athletic meets throughout the local areas and further afield. Training sessions continue on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 07.15p.m. Please check the clubs’ Facebook for all details. Sunday morning runs meet each Sunday at the local Coop. HiVis vests/bibs are compulsory. All participan­ts must be over 18years of age. The club can also be contacted by email at buttevantr­c@gmail.com. New members are always welcome.

BINGO

The weekly bingo session in Buttevant continues weekly in the local G.A.A. Hall. There are numerous monetary prizes to be won with a substantia­l monetary jackpot to be won which is now the substantia­l sum of €5400 will continue to rise until won. There will also be an inhouse lottery and an extra sheet game. There is also a 50/50 draw for attendees. The games get under at 8.30p.m. and as the jackpot rises so will the number of players attending. Your continuing support is greatly appreciate­d.

HERITAGE GROUP

Buttevant Heritage Group recently celebrated National Heritage Week which took place this year from Saturday August 17th. 2019 to Sunday August 25th. 2019 inclusive. The guided tours of local heritage and archaeolog­ical locations and buildings within the Buttevant area continue regularly. The local heritage walking tours continue as per usual each Saturday afternoon.

Buttevant Heritage Group will towards the end of September 2019 hold an illustrate­d talk on the Ecology and Heritage of our area. The talk will also discuss pollinated friendly plantings wildflower identifica­tion and the flora and fauna of our river bank. At the seminar there will also be tastings of wild foraged foods such as jams deserts sorbetsand sloe gin and blackberry wine. The appointed date will be announced sooner rather than later.

BALLET

Further to all the other activities available in the parish Buttevant has also a regular ballet class which is held weekly in the Muintir na Tire Hall. Membership is available to anyone who wishes to have their children learn the ballet form and the tutor of the art can be contacted at the Muintir na Tire Hall during the weekly classes.
