Seven days lasts 16 years for TG4 presenter Páidí

-

MÚSCRAÍ Gaeltacht man Páidí Ó Lionáird has said he will be stepping back from his role as main presenter of TG4’s flagship current affairs programme, 7 Lá/7 Days, after spending 16 years in the hot seat.

The popular presenter of the show, which is broadcast every Tuesday night, said he wouldn’t rule out a return to a front of camera role in the future. At present he is the editor of Irish language news on RTÉ’s website. He is also a co-commentator on TG4’s coverage of the Tour de France and other cycling events.

During his time as 7 Lá presenter, Ó Lionáird chaired the first Irish language election debate between the party leaders prior to the general election in 2011.

“I really enjoyed my years presenting the programme and I’m sincerely grateful to the editors, the production teams, the guests and, of course, the loyal audience whom I always aimed at with my approach,” he said.

“I don’t see it as the end of my broadcasting days - I will look at opportunities as they present themselves,” said Páidí.

He said the weekly programme had done some pioneering work in current affairs.
