Semi-final beckons Gaels

Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels 2 -21 Clyda Rovers 1-15

THIS Rebel Og Minor HC Division 2 play-off was a thriller at Buttevant on Thursday evening. Gaels opened with an early point by Josh Quinn.

Clyda levelled in the third minute when Conor Corbett soloed through. Colin Healy edged the winners ahead with David Walsh levelling at 0-2 each. Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels gained supremacy in the half

backline and midfield sectors. Colin Healy moved out field and he goaled after a good cross by Egan Murphy 1-5 to 0-2.

Conor Corbett replied with a Clyda point. Both sides exchanged points with Dominic Cronin landing a good point for the Mourneabbe­y side after good play by impressive Eoin Walsh. Colin Healy and David Walsh were very accurate from frees. At half time Gaels led 1-13 to 0-7.

On the changeover David Walsh had a pointed free. Gaels replied with two points by Colin Healy as they moved 10 points clear 1-15 to 0-8.

Clyda Rovers picked up their game considerab­ly. They had three points in quick succession by David Walsh with Conor Corbett putting Ben Nyhan in for a goal 1-15 to 1- 11 after 40 minutes. Gaels recovered well.

They had quick fire points by Colin Healy (2) and Josh Quinn to make it 1-18 to 1-11. David Walsh landed another free.

In the 45th minute Josh Hudner goaled for the Gaels. A foul on Conor Corbett led to another pointed free by David Walsh 2-18 to 1-13 after 52 minutes. Clyda tried very hard for a goal. Gaels defence held firm with Seamie O’Callaghan and Luke Barrett very solid.

At the other end Sean Kelly and Eoin Walsh defended very well. David Walsh with another free got the lead down to seven points 2-18 to 1-14.

Seán Killeen had a long range point for the winners with Colin Healy adding another free. Deep in injury time David Walsh (free) and Josh Quinn swapped a point.

Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels are now through to the semi final where they face Killavulle­n. Clyda Rovers will meet Ballyhea in the Plate semi-final.
