Macra evening’s a success
AN action-packed programme thrilled young and old at the Banteer Macra Field Evening hosted in Kilcorney.
Over recent years, the club has gained a reputation for their excellent promotions, the latest undertaking being no exception. Fortunately showers had passed over prior to the official start, ensuring a large attendance participated in a full and diverse programme.
Banteer club chairman Kelvin O’Connor said the Field Evening recalled similar events of the past.
“We included a mixed schedule ranging from tug-o-war, stockjudging, pony rides, bouncing castles, trad music and live entertainment into the night”.
Proceeds from the event went towards Brú Columbanus, an independent charity that provides ‘ home from home’ accommodation for relatives of seriously ill patients in any of Cork’s hospitals and hospices.
“A family’s first concern is for the health of their loved ones, but consideration has also got to be given to the practicalities of their time away from home, which is often a difficult and emotional time,” Kelvin said. “That can be alleviated from families accommodated in Brú Columbanus and it provides ongoing support and practical help for those in genuine need.” With an excellent staged event completed, thoughts already are turning to 2020, with Banteer Macra club members planning for a follow-up Field Evening next summer.
