Laochra Óg round- up

WHAT a very proud day it was for Cork Camogie and for two fantastic Laochra Óg club players, Roisín Murphy and Ava O’Connell, who took part in the All-Ireland Camogie Blitz final in Dublin.

Roisín was captain of the winning Reds team. Ava was a member of the winning Stripes team. What a fantastic achievement for both as all their hard work, commitment and training was rewarded.

The girls, their parents and Cork mentors have put in many hours of training and travelling to get to this point. Their combined efforts, commitment and sacrifices for the past 12 months have culminated in this final match.

Laochra Óg are very proud of the commitment and work ethic that Ava and Roisín have shown throughout the year, at both club and county level, while never faltering in their loyalty to the many club teams they are part of. The girls and their respective teams were also present in Croke Park on Sunday ahead of the Senior Camogie Final. A fabulous opportunity for them both. Congratulations Ava and Roisín, enjoy the celebrations.

Meanwhile, on Friday Laochra Óg U11’s played Killarney at Spa GAA Grounds. Laochra Óg, missing a good share of their U10s, put in a great performance with great skills on display by both teams. Well done to all the girls who played.

On Saturday Laochra Óg U10s had a hurling match away to Kilmeen Kilbree at their GAA grounds near Dunmanway.

They played two 12/13-a-side halves against a very tall and strong team. It was a very competitive and physical game and all the lads played really well and worked hard.

They were trailing by two points at the half time break 3-3 to 2-2.

In the second-half Kilmeen Kilbree proved too strong and ran out winners 7-3 to 3-3. Well done to all the lads.

Thanks to Garda Jim Quirke for the use of the Community Policing Bus on the day, which was supported by local businesses.
