AOH Cup 1st Round, Saturday 8th Sept, Kanturk 5-1 Watergrasshill

KANTURK progressed to the 2nd round of the AOH Cup with a far from routine win against a stubborn and hard-working Watergrasshill side.

Kanturk led 1-0 at half time through a John Dennehy penalty but were made to work hard for the win when they conceded against the run of play early in the second half.

But they managed to up their game and ran in four goals late in the second half from John Dennehy again, Liam Geaney and 2 late goals from the impressive Josh O’Connor who had previously lined out for the under 18 side the same day.

Best on the day were Kyrle Holland John Dennehy and Josh O’ Connor.

Cork Schoolboys League Games Kanturk AFC U16, Saturday 8th Sept, Buttevant 2 Kanturk 0

THE U 16s returned to action on Saturday away v Buttevant. We were very unlucky not to come away with at least point from the opening game of the season.

Kanturk dominated the first half of this game and but for the crossbar and a brilliant save with the boot from the Buttevant goalkeeper we could easily have been 2 up at half time. Both Buttevant goals came on the break during long periods of attacking play from our team.

Buttevant grew into the game in the 2nd half but were limited in scoring chances by solid performances from Dylan O’Connor, Noah Daly and our stand in goalkeeper for the day, Simon Murphy.

The full strength Buttevant Squad of 16 players against our available 12 was the real difference here that impacted our ability to influence the game more as it entered the final 20 mins. This U16 Squad needs some more players to give us more strength in depth for the season ahead.

The 12 on duty gave all they had in commitment in a very good competitive match.

Anyone Born 2004 or 2005 that’s interested in playing, Contact Jimmy Moore 086 8390022 or any club member for information on trials. We train Monday evenings at Gurteenard.

Kanturk AFC U14 V Corinthian Boys, Saturday 7th September, Gurteenard

Kanturk got their season underway with a home game to Corinthian Boys.

A very exciting game with Kanturk nearly taking the lead but the upright denied Kanturk’s Stephen Sheehan a goal after only 15 minutes. It was the visiting team that took the lead after 31 mins and scored again only 3 minutes later to put Kanturk under fierce pressure in the first half.

Kanturk didn’t lie down and kept pressing the Corinthian defence which resulted in Kanturk player Eoin O’Riordan being brought down inside the box. Kanturk were awarded a penalty on 34 minutes which Stephen Sheehan took well to put Kanturk on the scoreboard.

The first half finished 2-1 to the visitors. The second half was a very tight game with Kanturk keeper Aidan Higgins keeping his team in the game with some excellent goalkeeping while Adam Lynch controlled midfield.

Kanturk upped the intensity in the second half to eventually put Stephen Sheehan forward to find the net again on 50 minutes to level the game.

Despite a huge effort and great play Kanturk couldn’t find the winning goal. The Kanturk backs displaying excellent defensive skills to keep Corinthians scoreless in the second half also. Game finished in a draw Kanturk 2, Corinthian boys 2. Best for Kanturk Stephen Sheehan, Adam Lynch, Aidan Higgins

Kanturk AFC U12 V Bweeng, Sunday 9th September

Kanturk played their first league match away to Bweeng Celtic in dry but windy conditions.

Both teams were eager to impress. It was Kanturk who took the lead within 5 mins with a goal from Warren O’Mahony. Kanturk continued to keep the pressure on Bweeng and were rewarded with a second goal from Daniel Vaughan with an assist from Colin Healy.

Bweeng in turn produced a goal but Kanturk responded back with Jack Rahilly just before half time.

Kanturk started the second half with Cathal Murphy hitting a long pass to Colin Healy to make it a fourth goal. Kanturk kept the tempo high and got their reward when Colin Healy turned provider for Jack Rahilly to slot in his second goal.

Bweeng had a few late chances but goalkeeper Calum Twohig Bell was well able to manage. With the score line at 5-1to Kanturk they were well in control.

Best for Kanturk Colin Healy, Jack Rahilly and Cathal Murphy.

Kanturk AFC U11 V Mallow Utd, Saturday September 7

Kanturk AFC U11 had their first match in the Cork School Boys League last Saturday against Mallow Utd.

We played one 9 v 9 game to accommodate Mallow’s numbers. Kanturk had 13 players attending. Each player got equal match time and all played extremely well as a unit.

Kanturk finished ahead only after a very close game. The excitement went down to the last minute when Kanturk’s goal keeper Dylan McAulliffe made a tremendous save from a Mallow penalty.

Kanturk AFC U10 V Passage, Sunday 8th September

Kanturk U10’s played there first match of the season in Gurteenard on Sunday morning.

The opposition this morning was Passage, who brought 2 strong teams to Gurteenard. Kanturk found the pace at the start tough but once they got into their stride it proved to be two good games of football.

Our U10’s have learnt a lot from this morning and I’m sure that it will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season. It was a beautiful morning for a game of ball and everyone looked to have enjoyed themselves.
