Múscraí music trail a big hit with shoppers and business
AL FRESCO music sessions on the footpaths in Baile Mhic Íre village meant that Culture Night’s Cosán Ceoil/Music Trail was in full swing in the Múscraí Gaeltacht.
Amhlaoibh Mac Suibhne and Bobby Wolfe were giving Paul Simon compositions such as ‘Cecilia’ and ‘Me and Julio’ welly outside of Deasy’s Pharmacy while in Dromey’s Centra supermarket, some of Craobh Lachtaín Naofa’s award winning traditional musicians were in full swing with jigs, reels and polkas.
The sun was still high as the other half of the Lachtaín Naofa group played outside the Dairygold Coop on the other side of the busy N22 while Colm and Diarmuid Ó Meachair were making music at Ó Luasa’s Costcutters supermarket.
In Gadaí Dubh Books flute players Hammy Hamilton, Josie Cullinane and Eibhlis Uí Thuama were providing the tunes as shoppers browsed the shelves.
The entire trail had been organised by Ionad Cultúrtha an Dochtúir Ó Loingsigh director Aoife Granville who was delighted with the response from locals and business owners.
“I firmly believe that Culture Night is about bringing art and music to the people and I’m glad we managed to do it this year,” said Aoife.
“It encourages us to be even more ambitious next year and to bring Culture Night events to even more venues such as Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh and Cill na Martra.”
There was a musical conclusion to Culture Night in Baile Mhúirne with a sell out concert in the Ionad Cultútha. Gerry O’Connor on the banjo was joined by Tim Edey (guitar/ accordion) and Gino Lupari (bodhrán) were the feature act.
