Final bow from organisers of Liz Lucey Memorial Run

RECENTLY the presentation of all money raised on July 14 from the final Liz Lucey Memorial Run were presented to Marymount Hospice.

Ann O’Mahoney, a volunteer fundraiser from Marymount, came out to collect the cheque which amounted to an amazing €20,660.30.

This brought the grand total over the past 10 years to €152,553 and the organisers wish to extend a huge thanks to everyone who contributed to the event in any way over the past 10 years.

To all those who donated baking and sandwiches and spot prizes, organisers are extremely grateful; to those who helped out on the day such as stewards, ticket sellers and tea ladies’ a huge thanks too.

Thanks too to all the local organisations who allowed the use of their facilities – the hall, Uibh Laoire GAA and Kilmichael Vintage.

Of course, there were thanks to Valley Wheelers for facilitating and organising the cycle and to all the businesses, both locally and nationally, who donated towards our event in any way.

And finally, a huge thanks to each and every person who participated in the event and donated. Without your generosity it would not have been possible to raise such a fantastic amount of money for Marymount Hospice.

The Liz Lucey Memorial drive walk and cycle has really become a community affair and is one that has brought the parish of Uíbh Laoire together. It embodies community spirit and promotes the strengthening of bonds between different organisations.

Having fun and craic is what it promoted and it offered a chance for neighbours to meet up and have the cuppa and a chat while, at the same time, supporting a great cause.

While this has been declared the final Liz Lucey Memorial Run, organisers hope that some other group will come on board to organise another event that will continue to tap in to the good will, kindness and generosity typical of the area. For any questions regarding future events contact any member of the committee.
