Footballers through to county semi-final after narrow win over Cill na Martra
IN Premier Intermediate football, Kanturk got the better of a fancied Cill na Martra in the quarter final of the Cork Premier Intermediate Football Championship at rain soaked Millstreet on Saturday last, 21st September.
Kanturk opened brightly, taking a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after 10 minutes. By the 20th minute the sides were level 0-5 points each. An Aidan Walsh goal three minutes later helped Kanturk to a 1-5 to 0-07 interval lead.
By the 4th minute of the second half Cill na Martra drew level 1-6 to 0-9 and nudged a point ahead before a two goal blast from Daniel O’Connell and Ian Walsh in a minute gave Kanturk a 3-06 to 0-10 lead after ten minutes of play in the second half.
From there to the finish Kanturk controlled the tie and ran out winners 3-08 to 0-13 to set up a semi-final meeting with St Michaels in the coming weeks.
JUVENILE AFFAIRS:
The Kanturk U16 hurlers defeated Inniscarra in the Rebel Og Cork county U16 Div1 semi-final at Banteer on Sunday 22nd September, winning on a 2-21 to 0-10 score line and now face St Catherines in the County final at Pairc Ui Rinn on Friday 4th October at 8pm.
Before that county final comes around the U16 footballers travel to Mourneabby to face the home side in the semi-final of the Rebel Og North U16 Div1 FC, with a 7pm start.
