Loads of Duhallow interest remains in county championships

-

DUHALLOW teams are well positioned in the business end to various county championship s with exciting action predicted over the coming weeks. The divisional senior footballers march is well versed, the certainty is the 2019 County SFC decider will be a meeting between country and city teams.

Just six teams remain in the hunt, on the one half lie Duhallow, Clonakilty and Newcestown. Equally intriguing on the opposite side with a city flavour, holders St. Finbarrs come up against arch rivals Nemo Rangers to determine who plays Douglas in a semi-final.

From the County Premier IFC, Kanturk are going great guns , their impressive victory over Cill na Martra sets up a semi final date with St Michaels, a side that has contested three deciders over recent years.

This is a big competition, the Cork winners enter the Munster championship, also in the hunt are Bantry Blues, Bandon, Eire Óg and Beál Ath’n Ghaorthaidh.

And there is a familiar Duhallow involvement in the County IFC, from the six remaining team s, four come from the North West Barony.

Ballydesmond and Dromtariffe produced an epic that failed to produce a clearcut result in a quarter final, their eagerly awaited replay will determine who plays West Cork side Gabriel Rangers in a semi final.

Meanwhile, Millstreet can look on to the attractive clash of Knocknagree and Aghabullogue to resolve the second semi-final pairing.

Progress is not as far advanced in the JAFC, Boherbue sitting nicely , their quarter final opponents will be St James or Cobh, should they advance, a semi-final comes up against St Michaels / Kilworth / Ballymartle.

Newmarket remain involved in the County Junior A Hurling Championship, a first round win over Tracton secures a place in the draw for the quarter finals that takes place once all first round games are completed.
