Two-goal Milford advance past dogged Dromina

THIS Shreelawn Oil Junior C Hurling championsh­ip game between Milford and Dromina at Charlevill­e on Sunday was abandoned early in the second half when Thomas O’Gorman received an accidental head injury.

Milford were ahead by two goals at the time. Milford started well with early points by John Cremin and Peter Kirwan. Andrew O’Shaughness­y pointed a free after a foul on John Delee. The sides were level 0-2 each after seven minutes when Ben O’Connor pointed.

Andrew O’Shaughness­y and Peter Kirwan swopped a point by the 9th minute 0-3 each. Milford edged ahead again with points by Rory Biggane and Seán O’Connell. Dromina came close to a goal when Andrew O’Shaughness­y’s effort from close range struck the crossbar and was cleared. Dromina battled back well.

They were level at 0-5 each by the 22nd minute when Andrew O’Shaughness­y (free) and Ben O’Connor pointed. Further Dromina pressure saw James O’Shaughness­y and Shane O’Callaghan add a point each.

Milford replied with a point by Sean O’Connell. O’Connell had a late goal that edged his side 1-6 to 0-7 clear. In injury time Ben O’Connor replied leaving just a point between the sides at the break 1-6 to 0-8.

On the resumption Rory Biggane pointed in the 3lst minute. Good play by Jimmy Maher led to a goal by Peter Kirwan. In the 35th minute John Cremin pointed edging Milford two goals clear. In the next attack Thomas O’Gorman was injured and the game was abandoned.

It is likely to be replayed next week.
