A DRAW was a fitting result in this Rebel Óg North Under 16 Div 1 FC semi final at Kilbrin on Friday evening.

Buttevant had the aid of the strong wind in the first half. Kyle Trimm opened the scoring. Conor Hanlon added a pointed free. Further Buttevant pressure yielded points by Stephen Walsh (2) and Kyle Trimm as they moved 0-5 to 0-0 clear after 21 minutes.

Kilshannig’s first score was a goal by Kennedy Amechi after good play by Donncha Doherty and Shane O’Connell. Tom Cunningham pointed a free and the lead was down to a point. In the closing moments good play by Donncha Doherty led to an equalising point by Tom Cunningham 0-5 to 1-2.

On the stroke of half-time good play for Kilshannig by Alan O’Sullivan led to a foul on Kennedy Amechi with a penalty being awarded. Alan O’Sullivan’s penalty was well saved by Brandon Hogan.

It was expected that Kilshannig would push on in the second half wind assisted. Buttevant did well in this period. Conor Hanlon on the 40 and Stephen Walsh on the edge of the square were very impressive.

Exchanges were even in midfield. Conor Hanlon pointed a Buttevant free. Kilshannig had a goal by Tom Cunningham that gave them a lead 2-2 to 0-6. Alan O’Sullivan pointed in the 39th minute 2-3 to 0-6.

Conor Hanlon replied for Buttevant. Both defences were very solid. In the 55th minute good play for Buttevant by Adrian Carey, Edmund O’Donoghue Kyle Trimm and Kyle Bowles led to a goal by Joe Ivory as Buttevant moved 1-9 to 2-4 clear.

Kilshannig finished very strong. Tom Cunningham pointed after good play by Donncha Doherty and Alex Murray. Cunningham pointed a free deep in injury time that sent this game to a replay. The winner will await either Clyda Rovers or Kanturk in the final.
