CELEBRATIONS

Despite the atrocious weather conditions that were hard to digest after a lovely fine week, the people of Cullen and surrounding areas gathered in their numbers to salute members of the Cork under-17 all-Ireland champions, especially their own Luke Murphy along with members of the victorious under-20 squad that included Shane Hickey, Millstreet and Jerry O’Sullivan, Boherbue in the community centre on Saturday night last.

The planned parade through the village had to be abandoned but the players proudly holding aloft their trophies were led into the spacious building by members of the local Pipe Band to tremendous applause.

Club chairman Diarmuid O’Connell acted as MC while the local ladies provided tea and sandwiches for all present.

At the conclusion of the evening Luke Murphy spoke on behalf of the players thanking them for the wonderful reception. Afterwards, a big number adjourned to the local bar where many old acquaintainces were renewed and the craic continued late into the night.
