Fittest take on Castlemagner GAA challenge
THE Castlemagner GAA-promoted ‘Fittest Adventure Challenge’ drew a positive reaction at its Ballyhass Lakes setting.
Adding to the occasion was a Family Fun Day, and the presence of the All-Ireland Minor Football Cup in the company of Castlemagner player Danny Linehan added to the occasion. Clear skies and sunshine ensured the perfect setting, much to the delight of Castlemagner GAA spokesperson Paul Gallagher.
“The weather blessed the occasion. Competitors from all over Ireland participated in a competition based on Ireland’s Fittest Family”, he said.
‘The Fittest’ involved a three-person team-oriented adventure challenge designed to test physical fitness, good strategy, mental strength and, above all, teamwork. All the best in adventure sport was included, with kayaking, relay run, crate stacking, obstacle course and Jacob’s Ladder testing the pedigree of contestants.
The top three teams progressed to a ‘ hang tough’ across the picturesque Ballyhass Lakes, and it made for terrific excitement.
“The Fittest has become an all-important club fund raiser, with key adventure activists to former Kerry footballers such as Eoin Brosnan involved. It’s a hugely popular concept, not possible without the support of the management of the fantastic Ballyhass Lakes and our sponsors,” said Paul.
“The presence of the All-Ireland Minor Football Cup drew terrific interest, with Danny Linehan and team colleague Darragh Cashman from Millstreet being present. Our next event is planning an official function to salute Danny’s involvement in Cork landing an All-Ireland Minor Football title and his selection on the Minor Football Team of the Year.”
