MALLOW Arts Festival this year was the biggest and most successful to date, according to MAC Chairperson Tadhg Curtis.

‘From the time that the House Full notice went up at the Sean Keane concert on opening night until the last musical note sounded late on Sunday night, many thousands of people attended concerts, music recitals, theatre performances, film showings or poetry and literature readings and workshops,’ said Tadhg.

‘ The art and photography exhibitions in the West End Art Studios and 107 Main St also attracted many visitors. There were over 15 events on Saturday alone, a number of which were on the streets and were aimed at families.’

He said organisers had met families that had travelled from both West Cork and East Cork as well as visitors from Kerry, Waterford and Tipperary. ‘A number of Mallow born exiles now plan their annual return to Mallow to coincide with the Festival,’ he added.

The chairperson continued saying there is great potential for the Festival to grow even further but it will need more volunteers, if that is to be the case.

Anyone who is willing to join the committee or to give a hand at festival time should come along to the group’s AGM in the Hibernian Hotel on Monday, October 7 at 8pm where they will be made most welcome.

Thanks also to all sponsors, especially Cork County Council, Mallow Credit Union and the Hibernian Hotel and to the Mallow Star and the Corkman for their coverage.
