New publication highlights impact parents’ break-up can have on kids
SHARON’S BOOK IS “SO POWERFUL IT SHOULD BE IN EVERY CLASSROOM ACROSS THE COUNTRY”
THE launch of ‘ That’s Not My Ending!’, a new book penned by Milford native Sharon Morrissey took place recently at CoWork in Mallow.
The book aims to support children who are navigating their parents’ relationship breakdown and highlights the impact this has on their everyday lives and relationships.
Sharon, who works throughout the country as a private mediator and a childcare and relationship consultant supporting children and families during relationship breakdown, brings her in depth experience and expertise to what can often be a traumatic time in children’s lives.
The book outlines the story of siblings Seanie (10) and his sister Toni (9), following their journey from a seemingly happy home to the breakdown of their parents’ relationship.
It looks at the impact this has on the parent/child and sibling relationships and the relationships within school and the outside world of the children.
Sharon said she ensured the book supports parents to support their children.
“When parents are in absolute turmoil themselves trying to navigate an adversarial court process, children may get lost, through no fault of the parents. Parents are trying to survive the loss of their relationship. What this book does is it makes parents aware of the possible pitfalls and prepares them to be ready when issues arise,or preferably before issues arise,” she said.
“This book does not ‘ blame’ anyone-neither parents nor children. It aims to support both by using the mediation process which empowers families to more forward separately as a family said Sharon,” describing the book as a ‘passion project’ resulting from personal and professional experience of relationship breakdown.
‘ That’s not my Ending!’ has been receiving rave reviews and Sharon has been interviewed on Newstalk with Sean Moncrieff and on West Limerick Radio 102 FM..
The overwhelming theme coming through in this book, portrayed by Sharon as well as the wonderful illustrations by Romina Petra is one of heartfelt knowledge and compassion.
At present the book is available to buy from Sharon’s website www. sharon morris sey conflict resolution. ie or on Amazon.
Sharon is hoping that a number of independent bookshops will see the value in the book and commit to stocking it.
Paul Pierse, LAB Solicitor, speaking at the launch, said that the onus was on everyone in the room to introduce Seanie and Toni (the children in the book) to five friends and push the book forward in a real and tangible way. Michael Moynihan TD, stated that he felt the book was so powerful it should be in every classroom in the country, and said that he was committed to getting it in front of as many people as he could.
