THE fruits of the highly successful Banteer Macra Field Evening were presented to the Brú Columbanus charity in the form of a cheque for €3,500.

Brú Columbanus is an independent charity that provides ‘ home from home’ accommodation for relatives of seriously ill patients in any of the Cork Hospitals and Hospice.

Banteer Macra chairman Kelvin O’Connor expressed delight at the success of the event in Kilcorney.

It incorporated a mixed programme of events ranging from tug-o-war, stockjudging, pony rides, bouncing castles, trad music and live entertainment that helped to generate funding for the worthy cause.

“A family’s first concern is for the health of their loved ones but consideration has also got to be given to the practicalities of their time away from home, which is often a difficult and emotional time,” said Mr O’Connor.

“Where people stay and how the stay is financed, are worries that can be alleviated from families accommodated in Brú Columbanus, which provides ongoing support and practical help for those in genuine need”, he added.

Brú Colombanus representative Ann Maria O’Connor spoke highly of Banteer Macra and their endeavours towards supporting the cause.

“Our service is free, family orientated and funded entirely by donations.

“It is never easy to raise such large amounts so we rely heavily on fundraising,” he said.

“I would like to thank Banteer Macra for their generosity and supporting the project.”

Over the years, the Banteer club has remained one of the most progressive units in the country with a number of outstanding plaudits achieved in addition to hosting a diverse range of community events with the Field Evening at Healy’s Bar meeting a positive response.

Recent success saw loyal club member David Murphy enjoy a terrific result at the National Ploughing Championship in Carlow with Banteer supporters on hand to salute his achievement.
