Knocknagree fancied to halt Aghabullogue run and qualify for final

Knocknagree v Aghabullogue

ONE of the tastiest games of the weekend brings two genuine contenders for outright honours. Knocknagree hold a justifiably reputation from their successes over recent seasons yet as championship favourites, they can discount the notion of anything easy here.

Aghabullogue reached last season’s decider only to come up short to a battle hardened Cill na Martra. Just two outings to date for the Mid Cork outfit in the current campaign, securing a goal win over Mitchelstown before waiting five months to account for St Finbarrs by seven points.

Mainstays in the Aghabullogue line up include Cork Under 20 player Paul Ring, Evan O’Sullivan, Ian Barry Murphy and Matthew Bradley. All plain sailing to date for Knocknagree on shrugging off both Kildorrery and Youghal. Power and pace proved a deciding factor on an easy victory over Ballinora.

When required, Andrew Sheehan, Danny Cooper and Kealan Buckley marshalled a teak tough defence with David and Fintan O’Connor grafting effectively in the centre. And a lively Knocknagree attack stretched the Ballinora rearguard wth Eoghan McSweeney, John F Daly and Anthony O’Connor getting on the scoreboard to confirm they held a degree of more polish and the scoring chances arrived much easier.

Aghabullogue will pose a serious threat to Knocknagree’s ambitions with both sides capable of playing attractive football. Crucially, Knocknagree possess a competent all round combination, particularly in attack, that potential on chalking up scores can determine the outcome in their favour.

Verdict: Knocknagree
