Courcey Rovers 3-6 Harbour Rovers 0-12

COURCEY Rovers with three goals in the last quarter emerged close winners over Harbour Rovers in the County JAHC at Carrigtwoh­ill on Saturday evening.

The torrential rain all through made for difficult conditions. Courceys had the aid of the stiff breeze in the opening half. Harbour Rovers were quick to get on top. Stephen Condon had two early pointed frees with Dave Pyne and Padraigh Hannon working well for Denis Gallagher who made 0-3 to 0-0 after eight minutes.

Courcey Rovers opened their account with two long range pointed frees by Vincent Hurley. Stephen Condon landed another pointed free. In the 20th minute Padraigh Hannon forced a ‘65 that Stephen Condon converted. Cathal Maguire replied for the winners.

The Avondhu side finished the half well.

Good play by Padraigh Hannon to Denis Gallagher led to a fine point by Stephen Condon. Good work by John O’Sullivan and Dave Pyne led to a foul on Conor Dennehy with Stephen Condon pointing the free.

In the 24th minute impressive Gavin Moloney pointed a free. The Glanworth side had another pointed free by Stephen Condon that put them double scores clear 0-8 to 0-4 at the break.

On the resumption Stephen Condon pointed a free and John O’Sullivan placed Padraigh Hannon who made it 0-10 to 0-4. Courcey’s had a very good point by Cathal Maguire. Stephen Condon replied with a free 0-11 to 0-5 after 40 minutes.

Good play by Gavin Moloney led to an effort by Cathal Maguire coming back off the crossbar and being cleared. Courcey’s dominated the last quarter. Denis Coughlan moved to midfield with Jack O’Reilly playing a major role at full forward.

The South East side dominated the half backline and midfield sectors. They held the Harbour Rovers side to a single point in the last 20 minutes +7 minutes added time.

The winners first goal came when a free by Gavin Moloney was saved with the rebound coming to Brendan Ryan who goaled. Both sides were off target and both defences were very solid.

Courcey Rovers had their second goal in the 57th minute when Terence Collins and D J Twomey worked well for Liam Collins who goaled from close range 0-12 to 2-5.

Courceys continued to press forward. Gavin Moloney and Jack O’Reilly worked well with Terence Collins who was fouled in the area and a penalty awarded. Impressive Vincent Hurley’s penalty found its way to the net in the 60th minute as the winners led for the first time.

Harbour Rovers forced a couple of close in frees deep in injury time. The winners defence held firm. In the 66th minute a foul on Cathal Maguire led to a pointed free by Gavin Moloney. Stephen Condon had a free saved by the Courcey’s defence that was followed by the final whistle.
