Charlevill­e impressive in U-21 Premier final win

Charlevill­e 0-25 Mallow 3-9

CHARLEVILL­E took the Avondhu Premier U-21 HC title at Churchtown on Sunday. The game was highly entertaini­ng with the lead changing hands a number of times.

The winners hit the front with early points but Mallow had a goal from a sideline by Charlie Carroll in the 12th minute. Jack Doyle was outstandin­g for the winners striking some massive points mainly from frees.

Darragh Moynihan pointed a long range free for Mallow. Killian Cagney with a long range point edged Charlevill­e 0-8 to 1-2 clear after 20 minutes. Mallow finished well, Eoghan Buckley pointed. In the 26th minute a good cross by Danny Buckley was finished to the net by Eoghan Buckley 2-3 to 0-8.

Tim Hawe with an injury time point levelled at the break 2-3 to 0-9.

On the changeover both sides exchanged points 2-4 to 0-10 and 2-5 to 0-11. Mallow hit the front through Danny Buckley and Eoghan Buckley 2-7 to 0-11. Jack Doyle pointed a long range free. In the 43rd minute good play for Mallow by Charlie Carroll and Eoin Murphy led to a Danny Buckley point 2-8 to 0-12.

In the 47th minute Charlie Carroll placed Paul Lyons for a lead point for Mallow. Charlevill­e hit a purple patch and 9 points on the trot by Stephen Coughlan (2) Jack Doyle (3) Conor Buckley (2) Tim Hawe and Aaron O’Connor had them 0-21 to 2-9 ahead.

Mallow tried hard for a goal before they eventually found the net through Daniel Sheehan, but Charlevill­e tagged on a further four points without reply to run out deserving winners.

After the game Barry Aherne Board Chairman presented the cup to the captain Jack Meade. Jack Doyle was a worthy ‘man of the match’.
