Kildorrery have deserved JCHC win over Harbour Rovers

KILDORRERY with a well balanced side emerged deserving over Harbour Rovers in the Shreelawn Oil Junior ‘C’ HC quarter-final at Shanballym­ore on Sunday.

The winners gained control from the start and early points by Paddy Pigott, Eamon O’Connor (2) Michael Caplice and Tiernan Condon had them 0-5 to 0-0 ahead after 13 minutes.

Eamon O’Connor added two more points with Tiernan Condon (free) opening up a lead 0-8 to 0-0 after 21 minutes. Harbour Rovers opened with a goal by Jack Blackburne. Kildorrery replied with a pointed free by Tiernan Condon. Good play by Michael Blackburne to Colm Whelton led to a point by Edmund Roche. At the break the ‘Hill’ led 0-9 to 1-1.

On the resumption Tiernan Condon added two pointed frees. Jack Fogarty pointed for Rovers with Edmund Roche with a free cutting the lead 0-11 to 1-3 after 39 minutes.

Kildorrery had their goal in the 42nd minute when a sideline cut by Richard Hurley found David Hunter who placed Tiernan Condon who opened up an eight-point lead 1-11 to 1-3.

At the end of the third quarter Eamonn O’Connor pointed after a free by Tiernan Condon. Dave Roche in goal for the winners was in great form all through.

Both sides made a number of substituti­ons. Aaron Noonan pointed for Harbour Rovers with Tiernan Condon having a penalty saved by Brendan Sheehan with the rebound going out for a ‘65’. Eamonn O’Connor completed the scoring for Kildorrery.

The winners now meet either Fermoy or Ballygibli­n in the semi-final.
