Clyda beat Kilshannig to reach minor final

CLYDA Rovers were comfortabl­e winners over near neighbours Kilshannig in the Rebel Og North MFC Division 1 Cup semi-final at Grenagh.

The sides were level four times in the opening 17 minutes. David Cogan opened for Kilshannig with Sean Kelly and Conor Corbett working well for Dominic Cronin who levelled. Kilshannig hit the front again when Tom Cunningham placed Ciaran O’Sullivan for a great point. Conor Corbett levelled from a free. The Glantane side edged ahead again when Mark Barry soloed through and pointed. Good play by Dominic Cronin led to a foul on Eoin Walsh with Conor Corbett pointing the free off the bar 0-3 each.

Barry O’Shea landed a long range pointed free for Kilshannig. In the 17th minute good play by David Walsh and Sean Kelly led to a great point by Eoin Walsh as they were level for the fourth time. Clyda Rovers got on top in the half backline where Adam Jack, Garry Deane and Aidan Walsh were outstandin­g. They also did well in midfield ensuring plenty supply to their attack. Conor Corbett pointed two late frees as the winners led at the break 0-8 to 0-6.

It was all Clyda Rovers on the restart. They worked the short passing to good effect and put a lot of pressure on the Kilshannig back line. Conor Corbett kicked some very good points from play and frees as they led 0-10 to 0-6 after 40 minutes. Corbett added two more frees and placed Eoin Walsh for a 48th minute point 0-14 to 0-6.

Kilshannig’s sole score in the second half came in the 56th minute when David Cogan and Shane Murphy worked well for David O’Riordan who pointed. Clyda Rovers will now face Kanturk in the final.
