At a reception in the River Lee Hotel, Cork, Aoife O’Sullivan was presented with the Cork City Sports Athletics Awards for the month of August 2019. This prestigiou­s award is given to athletes whose performanc­es at a certain discipline during the year. Aoife= discipline is the high jump at which she excelled in at County, Munster, All-Ireland and Internatio­nal level. She competed in approximat­ely 16 competitio­ns at which she medalled in each one. Her best jump during the year was at senior level at the Munster Championsh­ips, in Templemore on June 9. The height jumped on this occasion was 1.78m. Congratula­tions to her on achieving such a standard and receiving this award.

AVONDHU CROSS COUNTRY– inaugural Avondhu Cross Country event was held at Knockardba­ne, Liscarroll on Sunday last and turned out to be a huge success. All track and field clubs in the Diviision were represente­d as followsL Fanahan McSweeney, Grange Fermoy, North Cork, Millstreet, Liscarroll, along with road clubs Churchtown Roadrunner­s, Mount Hillary and Mallow.

Liscarroll AC were represente­d by twenty two of our young athletes in u8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and senior.

We as members of Liscarroll AC and Churchtown Roadrunner­s wish to thank all our members who helped out or participat­ed in the races on the day. A special word of thanks must go to the O=92Brien family on whose lands the event was held. Thanks to everyone who supported the event.

COUNTY CROSS COUNTRY– Next Sunday is another big day for Liscarroll AC with the Cork County Cross Country Championsh­ips taking place at the same venue as the Avondhu last Sunday.

The age groups for this event are even age, ie, u10 (born 201011), u12 (born 2008-09), u14 (born 2006-07), u16 (born 2004-05), u18 (born 2002-03), junior and novice. Hope to see you all there again.

TRAFFIC CAUTION–People living in the vicinity of Knockardba­ne are advised that there will be extra traffic coming into the Cross Country from early Sunday morning up to mid afternoon and we would like to keep the roadway from the junction to Castle Street to O’Connell Cross, free of parked cars and traffic not going to the Cross Country if possible. Thanks in advance to everyone living in the area.
