Green Glens dairy show is back

-

AS autumn beckons, thoughts turn to the last agricultural show of the year, the National Dairy Show, which takes place on Saturday, October 19 in the Green Glens Arena, Millstreet.

The fun, family-oriented farming day-out offers something for everyone and has steadily grown into Ireland’s premier indoor agricultural event.

The show always offers a wide range of attractions, and this year is no different with an extended trade stand area with over 150 trade exhibits, marketing agricultural-based products and equipment.

New additions to the show this year are the informative, bite-size seminars from leading companies in the agricultural industry, offering further advice and insight to help farmers in their day-to-day business.

This will give attendees the chance to meet suppliers of a wide range of products, from the latest in milking technology to animal nutrition, veterinary products, detergents, animal dosing, AI companies and leading financial institutions to name but a few.

The National Dairy Show has been designed to attract an audience throughout the farming community.

On the day live demonstrations will promote the latest in hoof-care restraining equipment, as well as up-to-date hoof pairing technology.

Tractor-and-loader demos and bale-slicing demos will also feature, with up to eight manufacturers participating alongside a wide range of machinery on display.

Farm safety will also be included, particularly in relation to prevention of farm accidents, which is always close to organisers’ hearts.

Gardaí will also be on hand to discuss rural crime prevention on the day.

The Show always brings something different each year, and this year introduces a sheepdog and ducks demonstration, as well as bespoke seminars from the experts, not forgetting tempting food tastings and light bites from local producers, as well as full restaurant facilities within the complex.

Cattle-handling competitions showcasing young handlers from throughout Ireland always add an air of excitement to the day.

The audience in Millstreet has the opportunity to see the cream of Holstein Friesian and Jersey cattle before the Supreme Champion is crowned to the waiting crowds later that afternoon.

This year the Show is delighted to welcome Swiss judge Erhard Junker, who will officiate at the event as he brings a wealth of experience from shows across Europe.

Going from strength-tostrength and always of great interest at the Show is the Dairy Innovation Award, where product and equipment new to the Irish market in 2019 are revealed, with winners in scientific, technology and engineering categories named before the overall winner is announced to great anticipation on the afternoon.

A thank you is extended by organisers to the immense contribution of the National Dairy Show sponsors, without whom the event could not take place.

The Show greatly appreciates their continued commitment to this annual event.

All the information you need can be found on www. nationaldairyshow.ie, where the prize schedule, entry forms and pre-purchase of tickets are also available.

Don’t forget to also follow the Show on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for regular updates, and organisers look forward to seeing you on October in Millstreet at what is always a great day out.
