BK Plunketts 5-15 Duarigle Gaels 3-5
A POWERFUL attacking performance allowed BK Plunketts prove too strong for Duarigle Gaels in the Rebel Óg U-16 Football Division 2 Final in Ballydesmond.
The Boherbue and Knocknagree combination won and they did so with a powerfully structured display that delivered a telling surge in the opening half to assume a commanding position at the break.
From the outset, Plunketts dictated the pace of the game and operated with considerably authority on dominating the key exchanges with Michael McSweeney and Denis Mahoney established a grip at midfield, well supported by Cormac Hartnett and Dan Sheehan That blistering pace allowed Plunketts set the tone for McSweeney, Cathal O’Connor and Cathal Ducey land goals for a telling 3-9 to 0-3 advantage at the break.
In fairness, Duarigle might well had been closer only for excellent saves by Plunketts ‘keeper Donal Murphy. To their credit, Duarigle applied themselves well on the restart and spirited raids yielded goals from Alan O’Leary and Michael Thornton. A possible comeback looked on the cards yet Plunketts intervened, McSweeney served up an inspirational showing for his colleagues regain a domination that the Gaels failed to match.
