Dynamic duo unveiled as the Cork Person(s) of the Month

FOUNDERS OF CORK-BASED GLOBAL SOFTWARE GIANT TEAMWORK HONOURED WITH DOUBLE AWARD

- BILL BROWNE

A DYNAMIC duo of entrepreneurs whose foresight has helped place Cork at the forefront of Ireland’s IT software sector have been unveiled as the November Cork Person(s) of the month.

Peter Coppinger and Daniel Mackey, the co-founders of leading software development company Teamwork, have been honoured with the award in recognition of their contribution to the local economy.

After establishing their web development business in 2009, Peter and Daniel soon realised that an efficient project management system needed to be put in place in order to allow the fledgling business to reach its full potential.

Upon discovering that existing programmes did not suit their needs, they decided to go back to the drawing board to design their own business management apps that would allow teams to work across projects efficiently, providing insight into how projects are being delivered.

Working on their own software programmes highlighted a market need which they decided to actively target and in 2007 established Teamwork. As word of their innovative new software spread it caught the attention of some of the world’s most recognisable names with new clients including Disney, Netflix, PayPal eBay and Spotify coming on board, allowing the business to expand.

With more than €20 million in sales, Teamwork is now one of Ireland’s leading technology firms employing more than 200 people in Cork with its HQ in Blackpool and six other offices around the glove servicing more than 24,000 clients.

In addition, Peter and Daniel founded www.escapetocork.ie, an innovative website highlighting Cork as an attractive proposition for entrepreneurs and companies seeking to invest in Ireland but outside of the capital.

Last year, Daniel and Peter were jointly named the International and Overall EY Entrepreneurs of the Year for Ireland, recognising their incredible business performance over the past two decades.

Peter said both he and Daniel were delighted to be honoured with the latest accolade.

“Having watched a lot of our friends leave Cork in search of employment when we were up and coming developers, it’s vitally important to us that opportunities are available in Cork for people who wish to pursue a career in this sector,” he said.

“Teamwork has allowed us to provide these opportunities, and the diverse talent pool that Cork provides continues to impress us.”

Awards organiser, Mallow native Manus O’Callaghan, said Peter and Daniel were worthy winners of the monthly award

“Technology is the future, and having brilliant minds such as Peter Coppinger and Daniel Mackey bringing business to Cork provides a huge boost to the local economy, whilst propelling Cork onto the world stage as a technological hub,” said Manus

“As Peter himself said recently ‘we’ve come a long way from guys scraping a living making websites’. They certainly have,” he added.

Peter Coppinger and Daniel Mackey will now go forward along with the other monthly winners for possible selection as the Cork Person(s) of the Year 2019, the winner of which will be announced at gala lunch next January.
