THIS County Under 21 A FC quarter final at Glenville on Saturday was a thrilling contest all through.

Ground conditions were very good taking into account the heavy rain prior to the game. Kilshannig had the aid of the cross wind in the opening half. They had the opening score after two minutes when Jack Kearney worked well for Conor McMahon who pointed.

Good play for Douglas by Brian

Hartnett led to a point by Brian Lynch. Douglas seemed on top early on. They used the short passing over and back but found it hard to turn it into scores.

Kilshannig were patient. Conor McMahon won a good ball and placed Kieran Twomey for a good point. Douglas created a good movement with Brian Hartnett, Cian Baldwin and Conor Russell working well for the inrushing Niall Hartnett who cut through only to be denied by a very good save by Gavin Creedon.

Conor Russell was wide in the 10th minute. Good play for Kilshannig by Eanna O’Hanlon to Conor McMahon led to Jack Kearney pointing. Kearney followed with another point and when Jack Twomey cut through and kicked from long range Kilshannig were 0-5 to 0-2 clear. Barry O’Shea worked well but was fouled in the 15th minute with Kieran Twomey pointing the free as the Glantane

side led 0-6 to 0-2. Douglas made a good recovery.

Brendan Powter at centre back and the Harte twins improved greatly in the half-back line.

They had a point by their captain Darragh Kelly in the 22nd minute. Andy O’Connell followed with a point for the City side. Kilshannig came very close to a goal when Conor McMahon placed Jack Kearney but the latter’s effort at goal went narrowly wide.

Douglas were also wide before Conor Russell pointed a free in the closing moments.

The City side forced a late free. The free by Conor Russell was collected by Colm O’Shea and cleared as the winners led at the break 0-6 to 0-4.

On the resumption Kilshannig had the opening score when Ciaran O’Sullivan worked well for Conor McMahon who
