Four goal Killavulle­n too strong for Kinsale

KILLAVULLE­N will meet Whitechurc­h in the County Under 21 BHC semi-final after they ran out convincing winners over Kinsale at the 4G pitch at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday night.

From the offset the better equipped North Cork side dictated matters and helped by some well taken points by Michael O’Connor (2), Paul O’Sullivan, Jack O’Connor, Eddie Cotter and Colm Looney they moved 0-6 to 0-2 ahead by the 13th minute – the Kinsale points by John O’Brien and Darragh Crowley.

Moments later Killavulle­n struck for the first of their four goals when Colm Looney billowed the net. Killavulle­n continued to surge forward at every given opportunit­y and added points by Michael O’Connor (2) Colm Looney and Jack O’Connor before the half-time whistle that opened up a 1-11 to 0-3 interval lead.

On the changeover Kinsale who were reduced to fourteen players midway through the first half enjoyed their best spell in the opening exchanges with Kealan O’Rourke, Harry Sheehan, Rian O’Regan, John O’Brien and Stephen O’Neill impressing.

The Carrighdou­n side picked off the first three points in this half to trail 1-11 to 0-6 by the 39th minute. However, any hopes of narrowing the deficit further were quickly dashed. In the 42nd minute Killavulle­n cut through for their second goal when a great delivery by Colm Looney was finished to the net by the hard-working Eddie Cotter.

Kinsale responded with a point by Dan Graham. It was Killavulle­n that saw out the last quarter in style with Eoghan Buckley, Seamus Fox and Paul O’Sullivan very solid in the key half backline sector.

In the 50th minute the impressive Colm Looney scored his second goal that moved them 3-11 to 0-7 clear. In the last ten minutes the winners added a further 1-3 their goal by Padraigh Looney in stoppage time as they ran out clear winners.
