Mallow handballer­s win Munster 40x20 inter-club title

CORK clubs have enjoyed a good run in Munster 40x20 inter-club championsh­ip with Mallow taking the Open title after an impressive win over Kerry champions Glenbeigh, while at Junior B level the final rests between Mallow and Liscarroll.

In the Open Final in Ballydesmo­nd, Mallow had a convincing win over Glenbeigh on a score of 77 aces to 59. Mallow await the All-Ireland series in a few weeks time. The successful Mallow team was Dale Cusack, David Walsh, Tadhg O’Neill, Cian O’Driscoll.

In Junior B Liscarroll face Mallow in the Munster Final in Boherbue on Sunday, November 10 at 6pm in what promises to be a close contest between two evenly matched teams. Both teams have been impressive in reaching the Munster Final and will be hoping to continue their successful run by qualifying for the All-Ireland series. The Liscarroll team is John Hurley, Michael O’Callaghan, Tadgh Jones, Colin Healy and Luke

Barrett. The Mallow team is Michael O’Malley, Niall Delany, Paul Walsh, Anthony O’Connell and Gearoid O’Connell.

Kilworth, who reached the All-Ireland Junior Final last year, had a disappoint­ing run this year losing to Clare side Broadford in the Munster semi-final.

The County 40x20 championsh­ip is making good progress and of vital importance to the players involved, the winner in each grade in singles and doubles will go forward as Cork 1 to Munster championsh­ip 2020, and depending on results the runner-up could go forward as Cork 2 or at least be involved in a play off for Cork 2 a long way to go yet in this years championsh­ip but progress is being made.

In Junior B Singles after a series of games it is now narrowed down to two semi-finals in one Shane Flynn, Boherbue, played Colin Healy, Liscarroll, in Mallow last evening (Wednesday), while in the second semi-final fixed for Friday week November 15 at Mallow 7.30pm start in an all Mallow clash Niall Delany faces Gearoid O’Connell.

In a Minor Singles semi-final at Boherbue on this Thursday at 8pm Kealan Murphy, Ballydesmo­nd plays Donal Jones, Liscarroll.

In Junior Mixed Open there are a number of games down for decision in the next few days. On this Thursday in Mallow at 7pm in an all Mallow clash Michael O’Malley plays club mate Cian O’Driscoll, while at Glenville James Moakley,Kilworth plays Alan Noonan, Macroom.

There are two further games down for Friday both at 7.30pm with John Herlihy, Conna, plays Denis Quinn, Ballydesmo­nd, at Glenville while Pat Morris, Liscarroll, plays Jerry Guiney, Ballydesmo­nd.

Moving to Monday evening again in Junior Mixed at Mallow at 8pm Tim Breen, Boherbue, plays Jamie O’Donnell, Fermoy.

In Golden Masters B Singles this Thursday evening Shane O’Connell, Conna, plays Kevin Murray, Glenville. In Glenville at 7.30.

On Friday again in Golden Masters B Singles at Ballydesmo­nd 8.00pm Michael Linehan, Ballydesmo­nd, plays Danny Lenihan, Boherbue.
