Special arrangements at Dairygold

- CONCUBHAR Ó LIATHÁIN

IN a latest update to shareholders, Dairygold Chief Executive Jim Woulfe has said that the Mallow headquartered company is taking all the necessary steps to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of the massive dairy co-op’s employees, customers, suppliers, contractors, visitors and other partners.

According to Mr Woulfe, Dairygold’s milk processing and production facilities are “fully operational” and productions is not being disrupted by COVID-19 in any way.

“We have established a COVID-19 Response Steering Group to monitor the impact on our people and operations and to ensure that all necessary actions and appropriate measures are being taken to protect peoples’ health and safety across all areas of the business,” he said, adding that the group meet twice daily, seven days a week, to monitor the situation.

The company has a Business Continuity Plan for all areas, Mr Woulfe insisted and a number of measures have been implemented since a previous update just before St Patrick’s Day.

“Our employees who are office based have been requested to work remotely. Inevitably to maintain production our plant operators, quality and laboratory staff are working from Dairygold locations.

“Dairygold is taking every measure to ensure we support and protect our employees.”

Describing the situation as ‘entering uncharted territory’, Mr Woulfe said the company’s contingency plan would “continue to evolve” and the website would be updated as appropriate to reflect this.

“As we head into peak milk production, Dairygold is doing everything we can to ensure we continue to process our Members’ milk, provide essential services to our customers and ensure the health and safety of all our stakeholders,” he said, adding that they appreciated the co-operation and patience they receiving at present.

“I would like to reiterate that while COVID-19 represents an unprecedented challenge, we are all in this together and the health and safety of our Dairygold stakeholders is of paramount importance.

“Whether at work, at home or elsewhere in the coming weeks, please remember to keep safe and follow the HSE guidelines on the COVID-19 situation.”

The company’s superstores throughout north and mid Cork are operating a ‘Call & Collect’ service for customers. This means that customers who want to purchase items from the superstores should call in advance and arrange payment and collection before going to the store to collect the items.
