Airport remains open as Ryanair halts services at Farranfore
KERRY Airport is to remain open, but services to and from Farranfore have been severely curtailed by the COVID-19 crisis.
All Ryanair Farranfore routes – to London, Berlin and Frankfurt – will cease this week, but the twice-daily Kerry-Dublin service will remain operational, though with strict restrictions on the number of passengers travelling on each plane.
Staff and management at the airport have taken pay cuts and leave to help keep the facility open during the crisis.
Airport CEO John Mulhern said that the airport has a vital role to play in both the fight against the Coronavirus and the subsequent recovery effort.
“Kerry Airport will now become an even more important part of the vital air services to the county. Staying open means that all emergency air-services will have an airport in the county when they need us,” he said.
“The connectivity that Kerry Airport provides is an integral part of tourism and industry in both the county and the region. This must continue.
“Ryanair flights from Kerry will cease this week, however we are confident that, when they can and it is safe to do so, they will return with vigour and renewed enthusiasm,” said Mr Mulhern.
“Together with Stobart Air we will maintain the twice-daily connection to Dublin with limited passengers, to ensure physical distancing, but enable urgent transport for critical staff, supplies and your essential travel if needed,” the CEO said.
