Support group ready to help out neighbours

A COHORT of kindhearte­d personnel are behind Millstreet CV Support Group who are rallying to support concerned people about Covid-19. Reaction has been wonderful in a follow up to concept mooted by local postman Jeremiah Keating.

A launch meeting in Millstreet met with an overwhelmi­ng response, those in attendance drawn from clubs, business and individual­s decided to support local people, who may feel isolated and may need help and support.

Chairman Liam Flynn spoke of the importance of volunteers at local level that can play a crucial part in ensuring that isolated people living in the community can continue to have their needs met in the event that their usual sources of support becomes unavailabl­e.

“The COVID-19 outbreak presents a challenge for individual­s and communitie­s, in these exceptiona­l circumstan­ces, local community members have a role to play in helping those who may require additional support because of self isolation,” he said.

“We’re here to help, basic needs such as doing the weekly shopping to keeping in regular contact by phone are among the tasks that local volunteers can carry out to enable our neighbours can continue to live their daily lives safely in our community. Shoppers can avail of online orders or by phone to businesses where many are providing home deliveries or the Millstreet CV Support Group can do so,” said Liam.
