Ballydesmond and Kiskeam seek out Duhallow’s Fittest club

- BY JOHN TARRANT

OVER recent years, the country searched for Ireland’s fittest, fastest and strongest families through custom designed challenges and obstacle courses. Closer to home, there is a call sent out in these unprecedented times as who is Duhallow’s Fittest GAA club. Ballydesmond and Kiskeam GAA clubs are the brains behind the venture, in a communiqué this week, they are seeking the assistance of fellow Duhallow clubs to undertake a fundraising run in support of the Friends of both Kanturk and Millstreet Community Hospitals. And a percentage of funds will also go to the Burren Chernobyl Project, established in 1993 to help child victims of the fallout from the reactor explosion. Currently, there is an urgent appeal to raise funds where Covid 19 is prevalent with no PPE or opportunity for social distancing in dense living conditions. “Both Kiskeam and Ballydesmond GAA clubs have decided to do our bit to help raise vital funds for our hospitals in Duhallow. We see this as a great opportunity for our players to give something back to the community while also giving them a sense of purpose to their running as we wait to get back on the playing fields,” said Davo Scannell from Kiskeam GAA. “The idea is to see which club can run the most Kilometers over a weekend in an attempt of finding Duhallow’s fittest GAA club in aid of the Friends of Kanturk and Millstreet Community Hospitals,” he said. The plan is to commence the fundraiser on Friday, May 8 until the following Sunday, open to all players and Managements involved with the adult teams. Should any club be interested in coming on board, contact can be made to Niall Collins 087-2668210, Willis O Connor 086-1414423, Davo Scannell 087-9046844 or Billy Dennehy 087-9315272. Meanwhile Boherbue GAA host a Walk/ Run for Pieta House on Bank Holiday Monday where organisers ask participants to follow HSE Guidelines, further details available from Steven Lynch 087-2795558.
