Conor’s jigsaw giveaway delights patrons

AT a time when things have seemed to be particularly puzzling, the owner of a Múscrí Gaeltacht bookshop has given away his personal collection of jigsaws to customers in the local community.

Conor Kelliher, owner of Gadaí Dubh Books in Baile Mhic Íre, has had the doors on his iconic book shop closed since March due to the COVID-19 restrictions, decided that his collection of over 50 jigsaws could make lockdown pass quicker and more enjoyably for local families and elderly patrons.

What is remarkable about Conor’s collection of jigsaws, which included puzzles ranging from 500 to 3,000 pieces, is that not one piece is missing from any of the over 50 puzzles.

Within hours of posting the offer on his shop’s Facebook page, he had takers for all of the jigsaws.

“As there’s a health crisis and kids are probably driving parents insane at this stage, the puzzles are free to help lessen the stress,” he said.

While Harry Potter, landscapes, cartoons, art works and 3D puzzles feature in the collection and are suitable for children of 10 years and upwards, there is one puzzle which may be more challenging than most.

“It’s a puzzle with 623 plain gold pieces with no images - a real challenge for an older and more patient person.”

The puzzles were given mostly to family and a few to some older people while a couple went to people with Parkinsons Disease.

So it looks like some people are going to be facing a more pressing challenge than others for the next few weeks.
