Ali takes virtual centre stage

SOME of the younger members of the Centre Stage School also got in on the act, taking part in an online talent competition under the umbrella of the school’s ‘We’re Thinking of You’ campaign.

Centre Stage founder and artistic director Aideen McAulifee explained the thinking behind the campaign.

“As our classes continue online, we at CSS are always trying to find ways to keep in virtual touch with our students and their families. We are also very mindful of people living in nursing homes who are not seeing their friends and families,” said Aideen.

With this in mind CSS launched the ‘We’re Thinking of You’ initiative, asking students to create a piece of art or write a letter, which will be shown to someone currently cocooning in a nursing home.

“In this way, we’re hoping everyone stays connected with each other during the lockdown, and that our students can continue to express themselves artistically,” said Aideen.

More than 1,000 people tuned into the talent show, broadcast live on YouTube, to watch singing, dancing and magic performances by 10 different acts.

The winner, with almost 500 votes was six-year-old Ali Cott from Cecilstown who impressed viewers with her rendition of the song ‘ Three Feet Tall’ from the children’s musical ‘ The Grunch’.

“We are so proud of all of our contestants, and congratulations Ali Mai,” said Aideen.
