LOCKDOWN FOOTBALL

WHAT do you do when your broadcasting career is put on hold because of a global pandemic? Why you start a podcast of course. That’s what football commentator Will Downing did along with fellow commentators Mark Rodden, Stephane Jauny (a former League of Ireland player) and Dmytro Dzhulai. The four men have become a go-to source of informed commentary on the state of the European and world game during the lockdown period and have been essential for understanding the different approaches being taken across the continent.

The main strength of the podcast is the focus on the European game. They do obviously touch on the Premier League and the Scottish Premiership, but their bread and butter lies with the continential leagues. It meant that when the Bundesliga got up and running these guys knew exactly what they were talking about, no mere dilettantes dipping a toe in to Fußball, while waiting for the Premier League to resume.

The four contributors have a real depth of knowledge, but not intimidatingly so. Expert communicators, the four commentators do a great job of bringing you along with them.
