CHARLEVILLE Pitch & Putt Club is one of the town’s most popular amenities, and it is known to players of the game throughout Munster.

The 18-hole riverside course poses a serious challenge to the best of pitch and putt players, as the course is built on the sloping banks of the Glen River on the southern outskirts of Charleville town.

Club chairman Mike Curtin says that since its inception in the early nineties the club has attracted people of all walks of life who are interested in the game. “However, of late our membership has fallen off and we are presently open to accept new members, who will be made very welcome to our club,” said Mike.

“Our players have brought many trophies to Charleville, including the Munster Junior Pitch & Putt Trophy won by Dom Kavanagh, to name but one such victory.”

The course is part of Charleville Town Park and was developed by Charleville Vincent de Paul Society and handed over to the club to run in the early nineties, and it prospered for many years. However, the enforced closure of the club due to the recent Covid-19 pandemic has not helped matters.

“We now fear for the future of the club as we do not have sufficient members to carry on, and unless we get an influx of new members willing to work to ensure the future of the club, I don’t see how we can garner the resources to survive,” added Mike Curtin.

“It would be a pity for this important sporting amenity to die away, and every effort should be made by aficionados of the game to support the club and prevent its demise.”
