Kanturk return to football

-

KANTURK return to county Premier Intermediate football championship with an attractive second round tie against Nemo Rangers at Glantane on Sunday 16th August at 7pm.

Kanturk opened with a hard earned victory over Macroom at Cullen a few weeks ago and have had hurling commitments over the past two week. It remains to be seen how the hurling commitments will have affected the footballers’ preparations for the football tie.

Kanturk and Nemo Rangers met in the opening round of the 2018 championship in Mallow on 15th April which Kanturk contrived to lose by the slenderest of margins on a 0-10 to 1-08 score line. Kanturk will be hoping to gain the victory which would almost certainly put them into the quarter finals of the championship.

In Senior Hurling, Kanturk secured a quarter final place in the Senior ‘A’ Hurling championship following their 3-13 to 1-17 score line at Coachford on Saturday last 8th August.

Kanturk’s three goal blast in the opening half set them on the road for victory but the never say die spirit of the Carbery side gave Kanturk a searching examination in an enthralling contest.

Kanturk face pointless Killeagh in their remaining group game on weekend of 30th August.

In Junior Hurling, after their exciting victory over Banteer a week ago, Kanturk lost out to Kilbrin at Freemount in the Duhallow J’A’HC on Sunday last 9th August on a 0-19 to 1-21 score line and face Castlemagner in their final game on weekend of 30th August.

In Juvenile affairs, Kanturk U16 footballers defeated St Dominics by 2-17 to 4-05 in their league tie at Kanturk on Saturday last 8th August.

It’s the turn of the hurlers on this weekend when Kanturk travel to Charleville for a 5pm start. Kanturk need a victory to retain hopes of qualification to the knock out stages.

In Minor, our hurlers who defeated Valley Rovers at Kanturk on Wednesday 5th August 1-23 to 1-19 host Newcestown on Wedneday next 19th August 7pm.
