Museum blown away by response to collection

-

THE Millstreet Museum and Millstreet Website fundraiser to offset costs toward a valuable service that links Millstreet to friends across the globe met with a massive response.

Traditionally, its annual church gate collection was scheduled for early August but that wasn’t possible this year owing to Covid 19. Instead, the group set up a Go Fund Me page to afford the opportunity of supporting the two local community-based voluntary services.

Funds collected help to defray the cost of insurance, lighting, heating and expenses involved in maintaining an invaluable service that allows accessing archival material be maintained. Of course the Millstreet website www.millstreet. ie is a source of information for those at home and natives based in many parts of the world.

Over the years, the annual collection was the only source of funding to maintain both Millsteeet Museum and Millstreet Website. According to Curator Seán Radley, running costs at the Museum include the annual insurance of €1,000 in addition to lighting, heating and development expenses

“Such an outstanding and generous response from home and abroad allows us to now update our older well worn recording equipment and will also permit us to explore the availability of podcasts of current and historic audio recordings. Upgrading of software to share video and audio recordings and broadcasts will now also become a possible reality”, he said.

“We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has in any way been so very supportive in this year’s fundraising Project for the Museum and Website, It’s truly appreciated”, said Seán.
