RELIGIOUS SERVICES

Some religious services have resumed, in Saint Mary’s Church, Buttevant. The Saturday Vigil Mass, will take place, in the Church, at 6.30p.m., with physical distancing conditions. The usual Sunday Mass has resumed at 11.30a.m., with Covid-19 restrictions, being enforced.

Mass in Lisgriffin Church, has also been resumed, at -10.00a.m., also with regulations being enforced.

RESTRICTIONS AND RELAXATION OF THE COVID-19 CONDITIONS

Many of the activities recently suspended due to the Prevailing Pandemic have returned to their relevant training and playing programmes. Please consult your relevant organisation locally and also search your organisations’ social media and/ or Facebook .

VOLUNTARY HELP/ PARTICIPATION

Many of you may have noticed over a few weekends past that Cork County Concil dispatched a team of workers to Buttevant Town on a general clean-up and tidy/make-over to improve the appearance of the town having suffered commercially financially employment areas and community life in general with the introduction of the Covert-19Pandemic restrictions.

This occasion was introduced to help raise the spirits mentally and physically of those residents who were house-bound and restricted in their daily life and routines.

As a result Buttevant Community Council is asking local residents who may have a

Community Tree or Flower/Seat Display adjacent to their house dwelling or business would they if possible or when convenient to them to water the trees or plants and keep their area tidy and presentable to make our town viable attractive to the passing footfall and to possibly new residents or potential businesses and development. Your help no matter how or in what ever way will be greatly appreciated.

COVID-19-PANDEMIC

With the easing, of some of the regulations, enforced to combat the prevailing Covid-19 Pandemic, this week sees some leniency, with regard to public movement, staying-apart, and some general people activities. There are still many conditions, in place, to be adhered to, to help people combat the transfer of the virus, as well as the possibility of contracting, the fatal disease. There will be more reductions, of the present prevailing climate, society activities, provided that the whole of society, communities and the general public adhere to the prevailing conditions.

CANCELLATIONS

Due to the arrival of the Coronavirus pandemic in Ireland all social sporting entertainment and large meetings congregations and any event where there would be large gatherings of the public have been cancelled or curtailed on the island of Ireland. The government has “outlawed” all events where crowds would congregate to combat the possibility of the “virus” being transmittted to members of the public and causing medical problems and undue hardship.

Public houses restaurants hotels entertainment centres sporting grounds and venues where the public may gather in large numbers have been ordered to close these venues until further notice. Many businessesand commercial enterprises have fallen victim to this lifechanging pandemic which is now prevalent all over the world. There will be a constant policing of public places countrywide and the presence of Garda and Military Personnel will be permanently visible at all public places.

Please be mindful and adhere to the news bulletins and media conferences from the medical professionals and the health service executive and relevant medical organisations .

The future of the country financially industrially economically and all aspects of life as we know it depends aa on everybody being vigilant co–operative voluntarily available and concerned for the wellbeing of our families relatives neighbours and the public at large at this serious threat to all our future lives.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL

Buttevant Community Council are already to the forefront of activity for the good of the town and the local community. The Community Council is currently lobbying Councillors T.D’s and authoritative organisations and groups with a view to perfect the traffic situation at the Colaiste Mhuire entrance which is causing mayhem with the “willynilly” parking being practised by motorists parking at the entrance.

This situation is an accident waiting to happen and no doubt will not be rectified until some serious accident occurs there. Parents and guardians should realise the dangerous situation they are causing by obstructing passing traffic and also by parking in the industrial estate where businesses are working hard to make a living.

Please be more considerate when and where you park when dropping off your childrenattending the Colaiste.

The Community Council is also liasioning with Bus Eireann and Cork County Council with the possibility of erecting two bus shelters on the Main Street of Buttevant. Talks and consultations are ongoing between the Community Council and Bus Eireann.

Litter is still a problem in the town with no respect being shown with the depositing of litter in all areas. The Community Council is contacting Cork County Council with the view of having at least a twiceweekly “streetsweep” and general landscape improvement and also the possibility of having a “litter warden” patrolling the town area and environs on certain days of the week.

Some dog owners are still oblivious when it comes to cleaningup when their canine and feline pets have deposited their poohdroppings on the footpaths and walkways within the town. It takes very little time to gather up the animal residue and take it home with you and your pets. The droppings are unsightly and can cause pedestrians young and notsoyoung to have an unexpected fall when the residue is stepped on. Do take care and be aware of the dangers your pets’ depositing can cause.

Although everybody may not agree in general that the Community Council is of benefit to the town and there are those who are constantly talking down the organisation Buttevant Community Council is always to the forefront where Buttevant and its residents are concerned.

The Community Council and its officers are always available to offer help and adviceand direction to anyone who may need help with the relevant authorities governing bodies and organisations in obtaining the advice and help they may need and there is no fee charge or renumeration for the necessary service required.

SOCCER CLUB

BE VIGILANT

Following breakins and robberies locally we would all do well to be on high alert and vigilant regarding our properties and neighbourhood. We should also be attentive to our elderly residents and living alone sick and infirm neighbours.

There is a CCTV system within the town but it does not cover all visible residential areas and is only accessible to some appointed persons. The majority of people also find that CCTV is an invasion of a persons private and personal persona. Crime is no longer committed during the hours of darkness and the majority of incidents happen during daylight hours.

We should be alert to and conscious of suspicious persons acting suspiciously and also be aware of unusual activities and suspicious vehicles operating in all areas. Always report whatever persons or unusual happenings you may perceiveor observe to the relevant authorities.
