Return of football action will shed plenty of light on what teams are ready for knockout

-

AFTER a three-week gap and two rounds of club hurling, the Bons Secour County Football Championships resume this weekend with 26 club games listed. Add in three further games in mid-week to the Colleges/Divisional Senior Football and Hurling Section, and it’s adding up to a hectic schedule.

The club games offer exciting potential and the outcomes may well shed light on determining teams in the frame for progressing to the knockout phase. That opening series to the football saw impressive showings matched by room for improvement for others.

Those seeking a change of fortune include Ballincollig at County Premier Senior level while in the Senior A grade, Beál Átha’n Ghaorthaidh, Mallow and Clyda Rovers require a shift away from previous defeats in the campaign. From Premier Intermediate level, Macroom and Naomh Abán take encouragement from decent showings first time though wins will be of the essence this weekend.

Much the same applies in the ordinary Intermediate grade, Ballydesmond and Glanworth under the cosh and need wins to revive their respective contests.

Following this weekend’s hectic fare, the action turns to the Divisional/ Colleges SFC/SHC section. Given the pandemic, just three teams operate in hurling, Duhallow and UCC meet on Tuesday, the winner advances to play county champions Imokilly on Sunday week.

Four teams are involved in Football on Wednesday, Duhallow face Beara with Carbery pitted against UCC, the two winners progress to a sectional final four days later.a
