Nemo goal blast stalls Kanturk footballers
A THREE goal blast in the opening half by Nemo Rangers put the shackles on Kanturk’s quest to reach the knock-out stages of the county Premier Intermediate Football Championship at Glantane on Sunday last 16th August.
In fairness to Kanturk, they recovered well from being down 0- 01 to 3- 03 to be back in the game at the interval 0- 08 to 3- 05.
Much improved play from Kanturk in the second half saw them take the game to the melting pot in the closing stages. This despite Nemo raising a green flag on the resumption and going 11 points ahead for the second time in the game.
Kanturk settled and picked off some lovely scores and a combination of two spurned goal scoring chances added to six shots falling into the goalkeeper’s hands proved their undoing and we lost 0-17 to 4- 08.
Now everything hinges on the results of the final round of games with Kanturk needing victory over Gabriel Rangers at Ballingeary on Saturday 5th September at 4pm to progress in the championship.
In Senior hurling, Kanturk will return to Killavullen on Saturday 29th August for a 4pm tilt with Killeagh in their third round game with a possibility of a semi-final place up for grabs if they take the spoils.
