THE STORY OF KNOCK

On August 21th 1879 on a very foggy misty evening in Knock in Co, Mayo where poverty was rife, the local people were in their thatched mud houses by their turf fires, when word went around the little village, that there was something very strange happening around their local Church. Well the women wrapped their shawls around themselves and made their way to see what was going on, and the men followed on and to their amazement appearing on the south gable of Knock Church was this beautiful lady dressed in flowing robes wearing a Crown on her head and in the centre of the Crown was a Golden Rose, they were afraid to think she was the Mother Of God, on her right was a vision of St Joseph and on her left St John the Evangelist, also on her left on a little Alter on the wall was a lamb.

This Miraculous Apparition was witnessed by 15 people young and old .Knock is now an Internationally recognised Marian Shrine and has been visited by Pope John Paul 11 during his visit to Ireland, and every year since hundreds of thousands of people have visited Knock.

‘THE NUNS MINI’

A very nice poem by Maureen Cronin ‘The Nuns Mini’.

Everyone recognised this wee Nun When she drove in her mini to shop She was adept at handling a car But the problem was where wouldshestop There never was room in the park As cars were parked in very tight No room for the little red mini That she drove around with greatpride The Superior thought to ease matters, a Postulant would go everyday To help to sort out all the shopping while Sister kept out of the way Then when the goods were all ready the car would arrive on the spot They’ d haul everything into the mini and the pair would be off like ashot But this plan went all wrong for the Post ulantw hen she finally emerged from the shop There was no sight at all of the mini that she had expected tostop So she went along to the attendantand asked him direct to hisface If he’ d seen any nu nina mini loitering around any place He thought the enquiry peculiar amiss But wishing to answer it truth fully likethis ‘Not since I gave up the drink have I seen any vision like that But if I thought it was happening spot
