Stack performs the business with late late Newmarket goal

DUHALLOW JBFC GROUP 1

-

Newmarket 1-11 St Johns 1-8

A well created goal taken by Rob Stack deep into injury proved the match-winner for Newmarket to overcome St. Johns in a highly entertaining Duhallow JBFC Group 1 encounter at Station Road.

With the action back and forth over the hour, great scores and misses at either end, it made for an engaging spectacle with the outcome in doubt right up to the last kick. The home side held their own in the opening half, well served by Hughie Sheehan,, Jerome Ring, David and Eoin Barrett with a smashing Ring goal helped secure a 1-3 to 0-4 advantage at the break.

Newmarket remained well in the hunt, taking encouragement from the play of Donncha Fittzpatrick, Pa O’Brien, ColinO’Sullivan and Cian Crowley. Up front T J Bodie and Nicky Barrett posted points to take a slender lead. A series of missed chances limitied St. Johns before Neil Corkery pointed an equalising free.

With the game in the balance, the experience of Newmarket kicked in, Barrett and Cian Crowley combined for Stack up in support from midfield to drill the ball into the net.
