Easy win for impressive Charleville
Charleville 2-17 Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels 0-3
THIS was a very one sided JAFC game at Ballyhea on Sunday evening.
From the start the well balanced Rathluirc side who were short up to five key players took control and the outcome was never in doubt. Aidan Murphy had the opening score a pointed free for the Gaels.
Good play by Shane O’Sullivan and Jack Callaghan led to a fine point by impressive Tim Hawe. Mark Kavanagh gave his side the lead and the same player followed with a great goal after a 3 man attack.
On top in the half-back line and midfield sectors Charleville used the short passing to great effect with Mark Kavanagh Danny O’Flynn and Jack Barry in the half forward line creating havoc with their short passing at speed. Jack Callaghan had a goal for the winners who were 2-8 to 0-1 ahead after 23 minutes.
Aidan Murphy had two pointed frees for the Gaels. At half time the winners were 2-9 to 0-3 clear. The trend was much the same in the second half. The Liscarroll/ Churchtown side never gave up.
They created a number of good attacks. However Sean Buckley, Michael O’Flynn and Oran O’Connell in the full back line made some vital interceptions. Long serving Thomas Fehin at centre back for the Gaels battled to the end but lacked support.
Throughout the second half Charleville added eight points without reply by Jack Callaghan (2) Aaron O’Connor, Mark Kavanagh, Jack Barry, Simon Gleeson, Daniel O’Connell and James Kennedy.
