Colm O’Neill stars as Ballycloug­h win

THIS JAFC win for Ballycloug­h gets them back in contention for a place to come out of their group.

On Friday evening in Mallow they had a one point win over Kilshannig after playing without two key players Damian Buckley and the injured Thomas O’Neill. Over the hour Colm O’Neill was outstandin­g, he made three massive saves including a penalty and kicked three frees and a ‘45.

Teddy O’Shea opened with a pointed free. Kilshannig levelled when Mossie O’Connell placed Diarmuid O’Sullivan who kicked over. Ronan Buckley gave Ballycloug­h the lead in the 8th minute.

Teddy O’Shea and Diarmuid O’Sullivan exchanged a point by the end of the first quarter. For the rest of the half Ballycloug­h did well. Adam Finnegan and Barry Morrissey excelled in midfield with their attack creating some good chances.

Good play by Adam Finnegan led to a point by Aaron Finnegan from a tight angle. Aaron Finnegan pointed off the crossbar after a three man attack. Colm O’Neill with a ‘45 opened up a lead 0-6 to 0-2.

Teddy O’Shea and Jerome Murphy swapped a point 0-7 to 0-3 by the 24th minute. There was a further exchange of a point by Glen Kennefick and Adam Finnegan. In injury time Aaron Finnegan and Diarmuid O’Sullivan exchanged a point as the winners led at half time 0-9 to 0-5.

On the restart Colm O’Neill had two great points. Tadhg O’Sullivan kept Kilshannig in touch. By the 4lst minute Ballycloug­h led 0-12 to 0-6. Tadhg O’Sullivan pointed a free. The same player had a penalty well saved by Colm O’Neill with the rebound going out for a ‘45 that O’Sullivan converted.

Tadhg O’Sullivan kicked a massive point as the lead was down to three 0-12 to 0-9. Kilshannig put in a massive last 12 minutes. A pointed ‘45 by Tadhg O’Sullivan cut the lead 0-12 to 0-10. In the 53rd minute Teddy O’Shea completed Ballycloug­h’s tally.

John Quinn was put through by Tadhg O’Sullivan but was denied by a massive save by Colm O’Neill. In injury time Tadhg O’Sullivan had two points. Time ran out and Ballycloug­h were close winners.
